Dr. Saleh Ahammad Khan Professor, Department of Botany
PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Mr. Saleh completed his Bachelor of Science (Honors) and Master of Science in Botany programs in the Department of Botany, Jahangirnagar University. In the M.Sc. program, he completed a thesis project on ‘A Taxonomic Study on the Compositae of the Eastern Region of Bangladesh’ under the supervision of Prof. A.B.M. Enayet Hossain (Retired). In 1994, he started his professional carrier as a Lecturer in Botany in Chittagong Urea Fertilizer College, Chittagong. In 1995, he joined the Department of Botany, Jahangirnagar University as a Lecturer in Plant Taxonomy. In 2000, he completed a post-graduate study on 'Biogeography and Regional Assessment' involving training on the basic methods of DNA fingerprinting, RAPD, and Phytosociology, in the Biogeopgraphy Institute of University of Saarland (later transferred to University of Trier), Germany. In 2007, he was awarded a Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rar. nat.) degree on 'New delimitations and phylogenetic relationships of Sabiceeae (Ixoroideae, Rubiaceae) and revision of the Neotropical species of Sabicea Aubl.' under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sigrid Liede-Schumann of Plant Syatematics Department, University of Bayreuth, Germany. At the end of 2007, he joined the Department of Botany, Jahangirnagar University as an Associate Professor and since 2013 he is continuing as a Professor in the same Department. He worked in several research projects funded by Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education of Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, IUCN, USAID, and Jahangirnagar University. Currently Prof. Saleh is working as the research team leader in Plant Systematics and Biodiversity discipline of this Department, from which three PhD degrees have been awarded and three PhD projects are ongoing under his supervision. He is now serving also as the Executive Editor of Bangladesh Journal of Plant Taxonomy and Jahangirnagar University Journal of Biological Sciences.
